Product Description

PBPC 20 is a food-grade liquid sunflower lecithin — a naturally occurring complex of phospholipids extracted from sunflower seeds (Helianthus annuus) by mechanical cold pressing. Unlike conventional soy lecithin, which is a byproduct of hexane-solvent soybean oil refining, our product is solvent-free: 0 ppm residual hexane confirmed by GC-MS on every lot.
It is built for manufacturers who need a reliable emulsifier without compromise on clean-label integrity: chocolate and confectionery makers, bakery operations, plant-based alternative brands, infant and sports nutrition formulators, nutraceutical companies, and functional beverage producers.

Applications

Chocolate & Confectionery

Chocolate and confectionery account for about 33.5% of global lecithin demand (Innova Market Insights). PBPC 20 reduces chocolate viscosity by 10–30% at typical dosages of 0.2–0.5%. This allows formulators to work with lower cocoa-butter content, improves flow on molding and enrobing lines, prevents fat and sugar bloom, and extends shelf life. Premium and craft chocolatiers increasingly specify sunflower over soy lecithin for clean-label compliance.

Bakery

Bakery is roughly 30.5% of global lecithin applications. PBPC 20 functions as dough conditioner, emulsifier, and antistaling agent: strengthens the gluten network, improves dough machinability, retards starch retrogradation, softens crumb texture, and acts as a natural pan-release agent. In organic and clean-label bakery, it replaces synthetic emulsifiers such as DATEM and SSL.

Plant-Based & Dairy Alternatives

PBPC 20's HLB of ≈ 7 makes it ideal for oil-in-water emulsions — the dominant emulsion type in oat and almond milk, plant-based cheese, vegan mayonnaise, dairy-free desserts, and protein beverages. A technical necessity for brands that have moved off soy.

Margarine, Spreads & Emulsified Fats

Acts as a water-in-oil emulsifier, prevents phase separation, and serves as an antispattering agent in cooking margarines. Indispensable for plant-based spreads in the dairy-free segment.

Infant Nutrition & Nutraceuticals

High-purity sunflower lecithin functions as an oil-in-water emulsifier in premium infant formula and as a carrier for lipophilic actives in softgel capsules. The most demanding category on purity grounds — and sunflower clears it inherently, no extra cost for non-GMO IP or allergen segregation.

Why PBPC 20

Clean, allergen-free label. Sunflower is not on the FDA Big-9 list — no "Contains:" declaration needed on the finished product label.
Solvent-free. 0 ppm hexane confirmed by GC-MS — critical for premium, organic, and infant categories.
Non-GMO by nature. No commercially grown GM sunflower exists. No IP programs, no PCR testing, no segregated supply chains.
Oxidative stability. Oleic acid content ~65% (vs ~20% for soy) — superior stability in baking and chocolate tempering.
Superior phospholipid profile. PC 23–25% (vs 19–21% in soy) and elevated phosphatidylinositol (PI 18–20%).

Quality & Compliance

Every lot ships with a full Certificate of Analysis (CoA): phospholipid profile, acid and peroxide values, moisture, heavy metals (Pb, As, Cd, Hg by ICP-MS), mycotoxins (aflatoxin B1 and total by HPLC), and a complete microbiological panel (TPC, yeast and mold, E. coli, Salmonella).

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How is sunflower lecithin better than soy lecithin?
A. Three core points: (1) sunflower is not on the FDA Big-9 list, so no allergen declaration is required; (2) production is solvent-free with 0 ppm residual hexane; (3) sunflower has no GMO form, so non-GMO status is inherent and free.

Q. What dosage do I use for chocolate?
A. Standard dosage is 0.2–0.5% by total formula weight. This delivers a 10–30% viscosity reduction and lets you reduce cocoa-butter content. Exact dosage is tuned to your recipe and equipment.

Q. Can I order a trial batch?
A. Yes. Minimum commercial order is 1 IBC (1,000 kg). For R&D, we provide free 250 g – 1 kg samples with CoA and spec sheet.

Q. What is the shelf life of liquid sunflower lecithin?
A. 12 months in sealed IBC at temperatures up to 25 °C, protected from direct sunlight. After opening, 6 months under the same conditions.

Q. Is the product vegan and Kosher?
A. Yes. Production is Kosher OU and Halal certified. Sunflower lecithin is fully plant-based and vegan.

Q. Do you provide FSVP documentation?
A. Yes. PrimeBlend Ingredients acts as FSVP Importer of Record, maintains the full supplier verification activities pack, and shares it with the customer on request.

Q. Is there variation between lots?
A. Every lot ships with its own CoA. Target specs hold tightly: PC ≥ 20%, phospholipids ≥ 60%, acid value ≤ 36, moisture ≤ 1%. Natural seasonal variation stays within spec.

Get in touch as soon as possible — we will share a sample, quotation, and CoA within one business day.
